How to repair a poultry manure belt?

In a large-scale automated poultry facility, a snapped manure removal belt is more than a mechanical failure—it is a production emergency. When the belt stops, manure accumulates, ammonia levels rise, and the bio-security of your flock is at risk.

While emergency repairs are sometimes necessary to keep the farm running, understanding how to repair a poultry manure belt correctly—and more importantly, why it failed—is essential for long-term operational stability.

Diagnosing the Failure

  2. Transverse Cracking: Did it crack across the width? This is often a sign of winter brittleness in low-quality recycled PP.
  3. Edge Fraying: Is the edge torn? This is caused by tracking deviations (running off-center) rubbing against the cage frame.

Professional Hot-Melt Welding Steps

The most reliable way to repair a polypropylene (PP) manure belt is through thermal hot-melt welding or ultrasonic welding.

1. Square the Edges

Use a professional belt cutter to ensure both ends are perpendicular to the belt's length. If the cut is even slightly angled, the belt will never track straight after repair.

2. Clean and Dry

Poultry manure is acidic and greasy. Any residue left at the joint will prevent a molecular bond. Clean at least 5cm of each end with a high-purity degreaser.

3. Applying Heat

If using a hot-melt machine, set the temperature between 220°C and 240°C.

  • Technical Tip: The material must reach its molten state simultaneously on both sides. If one side is hotter, the joint will be brittle.

4. Pressure and Cure
