Polypropylene Egg Collection Belt: A Practical Buying Guide for Dealers and Farm Owners

Polypropylene Egg Collection Belt: What Dealers and Farm Owners Should Check Before Ordering

Every quote you get this season will say "polypropylene." That's the material name, and it's correct — almost every egg collection belt on the market is made from it. The name tells you very little about whether the belt in front of you will last three years or ten.

This guide is written for two groups: dealers sourcing belts on behalf of farm clients, and farm owners who are tired of replacing the same belt twice. It covers what actually separates one polypropylene egg collection belt from another, and what to ask before you sign a PO.

Virgin PP vs Regrind: The Difference That Shows Up Later

Why regrind is cheaper

Regrind polypropylene blends reprocessed scrap into the resin. It processes the same way, looks the same on a datasheet, and costs less per roll. For a supplier trying to win on price, it's the obvious choice.

What happens in the house

After a year or two of continuous running, regrind belts start to stretch. The tension profile changes across the drive system. Edges fray where they contact guide rollers. Eggs begin to roll at transfer points instead of sitting steady in the perforations, and breakage rises gradually — gradually enough that it's easy to miss until it's already eating into margin.

Virgin PP holds its tensile strength much longer. At Annilte we use 100% virgin compound, with UV stabilizers and anti-aging additives blended into the resin rather than coated on afterward. That's the main reason our belts carry an 8–10 year service life with normal maintenance, not 18 months.

Four numbers to request in writing

Tensile strength

At least 300 N/cm for a layer-house belt. If a supplier can't quote a tested value, they likely don't test.

Elongation

Lower is better. High elongation means the belt keeps stretching under load and you keep re-tensioning it.

Edge construction

Cut edges fray against rollers. Sealed or reinforced edges don't. Confirm which you're buying.

UV stabilization method

Compounded into the resin or applied on the surface? Coatings wash off during wash-down.

Perforation Design Is Part of Your Breakage Rate

What the holes actually do

Perforations aren't just drainage. A correctly matched pattern creates shallow pockets that hold each egg steady during transport, so it doesn't roll into the next one. If the hole spacing doesn't line up with your cage system's drop pattern, eggs land unevenly — and breakage goes up even on a brand-new belt.

Matching different cage systems

We cut perforation patterns for A-type, H-type, and enriched colony cages. For dealers serving several farm clients, that means one supplier can cover different cage designs without a separate minimum order for every pattern.

OEM Dimensions Without the OEM Markup

The default most farms accept

Plenty of farms order replacement belts through the original cage manufacturer and treat the lead time and markup as unavoidable. Neither is.

What we match

We make polypropylene egg collection belts to OEM-equivalent dimensions for common cage systems — width, thickness, hole pattern, edge finish. You get the fit without being tied to a single supply chain, and usually with a shorter lead time.

Standard range:

  • Width: 50mm to 700mm, slit to your size
  • Thickness: 1.2–1.5mm
  • Perforation: custom to your cage layout
  • Roll length: matched to your house

Maintenance That Actually Extends Belt Life

Tension checks

Weekly. Too loose and eggs roll; too tight and the edges wear early. Measure deflection at the longest span against spec.

Edge inspection

Small nicks become full-width tears quickly. Catch them early and a repair clip buys you months.

Cleaning chemicals

PP handles most poultry-house disinfectants well, but concentrated chlorine and stiff brushes wear the surface down. Use approved sanitizers at the recommended dilution and keep high-pressure nozzles off the belt edges.
